Anise Cookies

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Anise Seed
  • 1 egg

Directions:
    1. Preheat oven to 400°F. (200C)
    2. Line cookie sheets with baking paper.
    3. Place butter and sugar in large mixer bowl and cream until light and fluffy.
    4. Add egg and vanilla and mix well.
    5. Add baking powder and salt to sifted flour and sift again.
    6. Gradually add dry ingredients and anise seed to butter mixture, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
    7. Shape dough into roll and wrap in wax paper.
    8. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
    9. Cut chilled dough into thin slices and place 1-inch apart on prepared cookie sheets.
    10.Bake 8 minutes or until golden brown.
    11.Remove from cookie sheets and place on wire racks to cool.
